Understanding the Four Generations

The generation gap is a core challenge in workplaces, economy, and social transformation. Each generation speaks about different traits, behavior, and beliefs. Understanding the difference between them might help in connecting the generation gap that hinders unity and common social understanding.

The Silent Generation: Born 1928-1945 (73-90 years old)

The silent generation is one of the most stable generations. They pledge themselves in commitment to the social standards of their generation where men provide for the family while women stay at home to nurture the family. The “silent” is used to describe this generation because people at that time went through life pledging their loyalty to their work and stayed contented. They had a simple lifestyle dedicated to their family renting a bike in Amsterdam every weekend. The silents focused on their career instead of changing the norms of their society.

Baby Boomers: Born 1946-1964 (54-72 years old)

After World War II, there had been a significant spike in births. Unlike the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers were highly active in fighting for their civil rights. Baby Boomers changed the trend of consumerism, their generation started the coupon codes on products which created the idea of providing more value to customers. They value family relationships and focused their efforts on creating the first concept of work-life balance.

Generation X: Born 1965-1980 (38-53 years old)

Generation X had the most record of divorce of all generations combined. They started daycare systems where children were raised by two parents. Though the figures have undesirable traits that describe this generation, Generation X has shown a worldview that combats corruption in search for human dignity and individual freedom.

Millennials: Born 1981- Present (37 years old – Younger)

Coffee shops, smartphones, gadgets, online shops voucher codes, and online shops like lazada and zalora are probably the first things that came into mind when we think about Millenials. Due to advanced technology, millennials are the first global-centric generation. Since they are the youngest of all generations, their traits were highly influenced by older generations such as baby boomers and generation x.
